Hardships Faced By A State Teacher Who Is A Gay


Brett Bigham, a young teacher, received the Oregon State Teacher award of the year 2014. He is one among the members of National Network of State Teachers. He has written several books on autism and is concerned about the issues faced by LGBTQ educators. He was one of the gay teachers to receive the state teacher's award. In his childhood, one of his friends experienced break up with her girl date. Brett showed him opportunities for a better future. But his friend ended his life with a gunshot. According to Brett, only a gay teacher can help people like his friend. 

In spite of Brett being a successful and highly recognized teacher in his district, he was not allowed to inform in public that he is a gay teacher. He was not allowed to write or speak in public about gay. The district must approve all his words to the public. Brett loved his job, and the thoughts of his friend, who committed suicide continued to haunt him. He was strong with a resource for education topics. He was one among the teachers who were awarded the best teacher award by the President of the United States. In the press conference arranged in White House Bret spoke out in favour of the LGBT people. He openly declared that he is a gay teacher who works for the future of the younger gay population. 

The district took stern action against Bret for his open confession as a gay teacher. He was not allowed to attend the Gay Straight Alliance club meet for preventing the suicide of gay people. But anyway Bret managed to participate in the meet on his personal day. He was fired for his act, but he got back his job with various fights. He continued to attend GSA meet to encourage young gay kids.
